I have a tendency to bang on about things that have helped me along the road to losing almost four and a half stone. 'No!', I hear you cry, 'do you?' Um...yeah, I do.

Anyway, lots of the things that have worked for me have also worked for Lisa Jackson, a health journalist who's co-authored one of the best-selling books on running. She devised her own healthy eating plan, and also writes in her book (Adore Yourself Slim) about the things that worked for her. She's lost 3 and a half stone, so clearly there may be something to her ideas!

Here's a link to the article, for those of you who are interested.http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1343571/Love-slim-Want-lose-weight-The-secret-think-youre-beautiful-just-way-right-now.html

One of the things I really love about her approach is the positivity. She reckons you have to love yourself NOW, as you are before losing weight. I agree! If you don't love and respect yourself, how are you going to succeed at anything? You have to believe that you deserve the good things in life, and that you deserve to be healthier and slimmer.

So to this end, she suggests doing things for your body that make you feel good (pedicure, fake tan, body scrub, that sort of thing) and pamper yourself. She also recommends writing a list of the ten things you love about yourself, along with other lists like the reasons you have for losing weight. Always important to know where you're headed and the reasons why you want to get there.

I don't know what the eating plan is like, but my favourite piece of advice has to be to eat what you love! She agrees that if you hate what you're eating while trying to lose weight, you are less likely to succeed. So true! If it doesn't taste good to me, I feel cheated out of a meal and am more likely to go off track. I think I've had one duff dinner since I began this; fortunately I didn't fall off the wagon. I will tell you this, though. Life is too short to eat things I hate or don't really enjoy. Losing weight is hard enough as it is, without forcing yourself to eat things you think you 'ought' to, not what you like. So long as you base your diet on healthy, filling foods, you can't go far wrong, and many of them are actually very enjoyable. Add in a little of what you fancy, and you have a way of eating that is sustainable long-term as well as getting off the excess weight!
