Hello. My name is tigs, and I am a pedant.

There are many small things that annoy me. Bad manners, rudeness, cruelty to animals, superior people, that sort of thing, are all what I would term major annoyances, rather than minor.

Minor annoyances include:

(and this is really going to make me unpopular!):

  • us'ing apos'trophe's' where there's' no need to u'se them;
  • bad speling an grammer (dyslexia is a whole different ball of wax. Yes, it's online, and no one really bothers online, do they? Do they? Well, yeah, actually, because I want to a) be understood and b) not look like an eejit.);
  • PEOPLE WHO USE ALL CAPS FOR THEIR POSTS. This is the net equivalent of shouting. Hopefully, you don't go around shouting at people IRL. Please don't do it, it's not nice;
  • Giving a thread your name as a title. I don't care who it's by, I want to know what it's about. That's what the thread title box is for - explaining, briefly, what the purpose of your post is;
  • People (including myself) who take themselves too seriously. Lighten up, everyone!;
  • Those who want everything handed to them on a plate. You have access to the plan material either on line or through a class. Please read it. You will find it both helpful and informative;
  • As above, and asking questions that are a) daft or b) among those Questions That Are Always Being Asked (at times, ten times on one page of the appropriate board.)
There. That's got that off my chest!

Seriously, though, there are loads of fantastically supportive people on the boards, and I don't really (honestly) care whether they can spell or not. Provided I can understand what they're saying! Odd, though, that on a weight loss site there are so many who confuse loose (the opposite of tight) with lose (if you follow the plan, you will lose weight.)

I used to be a lot more uptight about all of this. First time around as an online member, I avoided the boards for all of these reasons. I just found it so frustrating that I could feel my blood pressure soaring! Now I am that bit older and hopefully a little more laid back, it's not usually a problem.

No, I am not advocating a ban on people who do all or any of the above. And please don't take me too seriously about any of this. It's my problem, not yours. I just seem to have my grumpy knickers on this afternoon.

No, this is not aimed at anyone in particular. Please don't take it personally!

Yes, I used to read dictionaries as a child. And Roget's Thesaurus. I also trained as a journalist and used to sub-edit a fair amount of copy as a trainee doing work experience, when the sub-editor in our office was snowed under. I'm also a recovering solicitor, so pedantry is very much in my nature, sorry to say.

I'm a nice person really, though.
